TUNE GUITAR BY LISTNING

RELATIVE TUNING-TUNE GUITAR BY LISTNING

Here are basic instructions how to tune a guitar by ear. Our chromatic tuner has microphone and line-in support so it can be used to tune all strings, but it is always good to practice tuning the guitar by ear.

To tune next string place a finger on the 5th fret of the E-string, which is an A note. Adjust the open A-string until the two strings are in tune.

When the two upper strings are in tune, continue with the D string. Place a finger on the 5th fret of the A string, that is a D note. Adjust the open D string until its in tune with the reference D note from the A string, keep in mind only to make minor adjustments to the string tension while tuning.

A finger on the 5th fret of the D string is a G note. Adjust the tuning of the open G string until the two strings are in tune.

Move on to the next string, to get a B note from the G string put a finger on the 4th fret. Note that the fret differs from the other strings. Adjust the open B string until it is in tune with the reference B note from the G string.

A finger on the 5th fret of the B string is an E note. Adjust the tuning of the open E string so that it is in tune with the reference E note from the B string.
